AT News Report-KABUL: Ministry of Agriculture Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL) opened the first-ever cold storage in Paghaman district of Kabul province.
“This cold storage is an under zero-energy warehouse, which operates without power or gas energy in the district,” said a press statement issued by MAIL.
This cold storage was constructing at a total cost of $36000 with the financial support of Nepal people through South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation SAARC programs, statement added.
Statement said that this cold storage has the capacity of 60 metric tons of fruits and has been built accordance to Nepal people experiences.
The storage was constructed with modern techniques, which control the required air condition through dropping water, noted statement.
Statement said that as mostly fruits and vegetables are perishable, thus the MAIL established this cold storage to utmost facilitate farmers to prevent their post harvest from spoilage.
MAIL plans to expand construction of such zero-energy cold storage to other part of Kabul, Parwan, Balkh and Samangan provinces, mentioned the statement.
MAIL has established 2,800 zero-energy cold storages for post harvest of farmers particularly for potatoes and onions in Kabul, Parwan and Bamyan provinces.
Afghanistan is mostly an agrarian country, where around 80 percent of population engaged in agriculture, thus establishing of cold storage for their post harvest is a vital step toward developing economic across the country.
