AT-KABUL: The first pair of UH-60s (Black Hawk) arrived in Afghanistan and will be soon submitted to Afghan Air Force, defense ministry said Tuesday.
“Four fleets of UH-60s will be officially handed over to Ministry of Defense (MoD) in coming week,” said Deputy Spokesman for MoD Mohammad Radmanish.
He said that two of the UH-60s already arrived to Afghanistan.
He said that these choppers are part of the US assistance through the four years plan made by ministry of defense to boost up Afghan army and AAF.
The newly arrived UH-60s will be used for urgent transportation and supporting of combatants in the country, he added.
Based on MoD plan the AAF must be a capable force to operate independently with required criteria after four years in the country, he insisted.
Resolute Support also in a statement confirmed that the first Afghan Air Force UH-60s arrived yesterday at Kandahar Air Field. The AAF is transitioning from the Mi-17 to the UH-60 as part of recapitalization efforts to modernize the helicopter fleet.
Recapitalization will provide the means to further develop professional, capable and sustainable Afghan Air Power.
