KABUL: At least five civilians including women and children were killed and three others wounded when a rocket fired by the Taliban hit a public transportation in central Wardak province, an official said on Friday.
Provincial Police Chief, Mohammad Mustafa Mayar said the incident happened in the Chahar Band area of the province, in which five people, including women and children were killed and three others wounded.
He said all the victims were residents of Bamyan province who were heading towards Kabul.
The wounded were evacuated to hospital for medical treatment, he added.
This comes as provincial council members of Wardak province claimed that 20 civilians were killed and 15 others wounded due to Taliban attacks and roads side bomb blasts.
A provincial council member Mohammad Sardar Bakhtiyari expressed his deep concerns over the rising civilians’ casualties, calling on the warring sides to prevent civilians’ causalities.
Taliban denied for having hand in this incident.
This is as the Afghanistan Human rights commission said in a new report that 5,321 civilians were killed or wounded in the first six months of this year which shows 80% increase than the same period last year.
the commission said that 1,677 civilians have been killed and 3,644 others wounded during armed clashes and explosions.
Taliban intensified violence across Afghanistan, inflecting heavy causalities on civilians.
