AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: The National Directorate of Security (NDS) operatives have detained a group of five kidnappers in eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Monday.
Attaullah Khogyani, the governor’s spokesperson, told Pajhwok Afghan News the kidnappers were involved in many criminal cases in Jalalabad, the provincial capital. He said the detainees had confessed to their crimes.
Meanwhile, a statement issued by the governor house quoted the Samiullah-led gang as saying: “We have tasked our partners in the city to follow wealthy moneychangers.”
The gang leader confessed they were conducting crimes in different districts, including highways and kidnapped rich individuals from various areas.
However, the residents of Nangarhar were uncomfortable with the arrest of only five criminals and termed it insufficient move and emphasized on more meaningful efforts to curb target killing and kidnapping. As per reports, during the past two weeks, the NDS operatives have arrested 11 kidnappers and crackdown continues.
