By Farhad Naibkhel-KABUL: At least five people were killed and nine others wounded after a suicide bomber blew himself up Tuesday morning in front of a Kabul Bank branch in Kabul city, police and health officials said.
“A suicide attacker detonated his explosives in front of Kabul Bank branch in police district 9 near the US embassy at around 10:00am,” said Kabul police spokesman, Basir Mujahid.
He said that unfortunately, five people were killed and nine other wounded in the incident mostly civilians.
Wounded people were rushed to nearby hospitals and further inquiry started over the incident, he added.
Ministry of Public Health Spokesman, Ismail Kawosi said that four to five women were among injured people.
Eyewitnesses told media outlets that numbers of civilians including Kabul bank staffs were among casualties. Also they claimed that a suspected bomber was arrested from the area.
Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack in Kabul bank branch, the group’s spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said that a Taliban suicide bomber blew himself up in front of Kabul bank.
Often Kabul bank branches were targeted by Taliban insurgents particularly at the doorsill Eid days, which caused big tragedy for Afghan innocent civilians during the holy days. Most of the governmental staffs are receiving their salary through Kabul bank branches. One week before Eid days people rushes to the Kabul bank branches to earn money and celebrate Eid, so it is required of government to reinforce better security for banks or seek alternative in order to prevent civilian casualties at the threshold of Eid days.
