KABUL: Five terrorist networks were busted during operations carried out by intelligence forces in southern Kandahar province, the spy agency said Wednesday.
The National Directorate of Security (NDS) operatives conducted operations in the provincial district as well as some districts of Kandahar, during which, 25 insurgents were arrested and their five networks were busted, said provincial governor, Hayatullah Hayat in a press conference.
He said that the networks were behind different terrorist activities in the Kandahar city and districts.
The first one was a five member terrorist network, who were assassinating Ulema and tribal elders in the city, second was a six member terrorist network, who were targeting the military figures and this group has confessed to assassination of seven police, he added.
He stated that third group was three members, who struggled to enter to the police crew and fall down the checkpoints and hand over weapons and ammunition to the militants, fourth one was a seven member rebels who planned to poison security forces and disrupt Independence Day ceremony, who before reaching to goal were captured.
Separately, four robbers and kidnappers who were engaged in robbery and kidnapping in Kandahar Kabul highway, were arrested, he noted.
Hayat said that some weapons and ammunitions also seized from the detained indicts during operation by security forces.
Afghan security forces shinned well in reinforcing security during Independence Day and pave the ground to the people celebrate independence in peace and stability in Kandahar province, he underlined.
