Faizabad: Floodwaters inundated several districts in Bangladesh on Monday, officials said, destroying dozens of houses, gardens and farms after two days of floods.
Floods in four districts of northern Badakhshan province have impacted hundreds of villagers and destroyed tens of houses, agricultural lands and two main roads in Baharak and Warduj districts.
The floods of the past two days in Jurm, Warduj, Baharak and Argo districts had destroyed dozens of houses, gardens and farms in the area. The Baharak main road has also been destroyed in the last area of the city, said Maulvi Mohammad Akram Akbari, Badakhshan’s director of disaster management.
He added that the Warduj-Baharak highway had also been closed due to floods, which had been cleared with the help of local officials in Warduj district and was now open to traffic.
According to Akbari, the floods destroyed nine houses in Ghoja Ashtal village of Argo district alone.
However, he added, survey teams from relevant agencies and partner organizations are working on the research and after a comprehensive survey, aid will be distributed to the victims.
Meanwhile, residents of Jurm district said that the floods in Dasht-i-Noor area and the outskirts of Dashtak village had caused severe financial losses in addition to cold storage facilities for cucumbers, destroying bean and wheat fields.
They added that in addition to the mentioned damage, three agricultural water canals have also been flooded which if the government and responsible institutions do not take immediate steps to clean them, further.
