KABUL: Members of intelligence agency of Afghanistan’s former government are reported to be joining the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria-Khorasan branch (ISIS-K) in order to survive and resist the Taliban.
In a report, Wall Street Journal said the former intelligence personnel – mostly US-trained spies –are joining Daesh terrorist group in northern Afghanistan.
The report further reads that the former Afghan spies are joining ISIS-K for livelihood as they have been abandoned after the government collapse. It cites resistance against the Taliban government as another motive behind this.
The number of people joining the militant group is growing, and it is feared that the ISIS-K will be difficult to defeat even in years ahead.
The Taliban have always downplayed Daesh threat, assuring people and regional countries that the terror group will not pose any threat to the Afghan people and the region.
