KABUL – A former British military general, Gen. Sir Richard Barrons, has voiced strong criticism against the possible deportation of Afghan special forces, trained and funded by the UK, who collaborated closely with British troops in the fight against the Taliban. According to a report by BBC, these Afghan troops and their families, now residing in Pakistan, are facing the threat of deportation.
The 200 special forces, if deported to Afghanistan, could be at significant risk of retaliation by the Taliban. Pakistan has expressed its readiness to deport Afghans lacking proper residency documentation.
Gen. Barrons labeled the failure to relocate these Afghan allies as a “disgrace,” highlighting that it reflects poorly on Britain, suggesting either duplicity or incompetence, both deemed unacceptable. Moreover, 32 former Afghan politicians, who collaborated with Britain and the U.S., residing in Pakistan are also encountering issues obtaining the necessary paperwork for international travel and residency.
The Afghan Relocations and Assistance Program, designed to facilitate the relocation of such individuals, has faced challenges. Many applicants have been rejected, and others are still awaiting a resolution more than a year later, as reported by the BBC.
