KABUL: Four Afghan security forces have lost their lives in the line of duty while battling the Taliban insurgents in Daikundi province. The clash erupted after the Taliban insurgents attacked their checkpoint which 12 Taliban insurgents were killed in retaliation by the Afghan security forces, officials said on Sunday.
Provincial Police Chief, Naqibullah Malistani said the Taliban stormed the security forces checkpoints and killed four police personnel in Tamzan area of Pato. According to him, 12 militants were killed by Afghan forces in retaliation.
One police officer was wounded in the attack, he added.
“The clash had lasted for four hours and the security forces were backed with aerial operations.”
Rahman Baluch, a member of the Daikundi provincial council said the Taliban has surged up their activities in Kijran, Pato and Nawmish districts of the province.
“The public uprising forces stand against the Taliban but lack of coordination among them have paved ground for the Taliban’s attack,” he added.
The Taliban has yet to comment on the incident.
