AT Kabul: A four-day ceasefire between Israeli forces and Hamas is set to begin shortly. The ceasefire is scheduled to commence at 10:00 local time on Thursday, November 23, and 12:30 Afghanistan time.
According to an agreement mediated by Qatar between Israel and Hamas, 50 Israeli hostages held by Hamas will be released in exchange for 150 Palestinian hostages in Israeli custody after the four-day truce begins.
Mousa Abu Marzouk, a leader of Hamas, mentioned that the majority of the 50 hostages to be released hold foreign citizenship.
This ceasefire follows a month-long deadly conflict between Israel and Hamas.
The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) has stated that the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel is deemed insufficient for protecting the lives of Palestinian children. The region is labeled as the “most dangerous place in the world” for civilians, especially children.
Israeli authorities report that Hamas has killed 1,200 people and taken 240 individuals hostage in its attacks on the country. Palestinian authorities claim that more than 14,000 Palestinians, including 5,300 children, have been killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza so far.
