By Farhad Naibkhel-KABUL: At least four people killed and over 15 others wounded, after a suicide bomber targeted the heavily guarded and the largest base for the US forces in Bagram district of northern Parwan province, said officials.
“A suicide bomber managed to enter into the Bagram air base among Afghan local workers with disguised face and exploded his explosive laden vest inside the base,” said Parwan Governor Spokesman Wahid Sediqi.
He said that based on initial reports four people have been killed and over 15 others were wounded in the blast which is still under investigation.
He said that it is yet not clear whether foreign forces were among the killed and injured or not.
Meanwhile NATO’s Resolute Support Mission in Kabul in a statement said that an explosive device was detonated on Bagram Airfield resulting in multiple casualties. Four people have died in the attack and approximately 14 have been wounded.
“We offer our deepest condolences for the families and friends of those wounded in today’s attack” the mission said.
“The wounded people are receiving the best care possible, and we will keep them in our thoughts today,” said General John W. Nicholson, US Army, and Commander of Resolute Support.
“To those who target Coalition forces, ANDSF, and Afghan civilians, Resolute Support and USFOR-A will continue to pursue our Train, Advise, and Assist mission to help our partners create a better Afghanistan,” Response teams at Bagram continue to treat the wounded and investigate the incident.
Taliban in a statement claimed responsibility for the attack, and said that the attack was conducted by a martyrdom seeker managed to enter into Bagram air base and to explode his explosives he had placed in his body in the sport ground, while American were exercising. Taliban claimed the foreign troops suffered “heavy casualties” in the blast.
