AT-KABUL: Four police officers were killed and five others wounded in a roadside bombing in the north-eastern province of Kapisa, a local official said Saturday.
Hussain Sanjani, head of provincial council said that the bomb targeted a senior officer Abdul Hakim Nejrabi’s vehicle in the Nejrab district late in Friday.
“Four relatives of Nejrabi had been killed and five others injured,” Sanjani said, adding that Nejrabi had escaped unhurt.
However, provincial police spokesman Naqibullah Amini said the blast happened when Nejrabi was on his way to Nejrab district.
According to Amini, four Special Forces’ personnel were killed and five others wounded.
Zahidullah, a local resident said the brother of a lawmaker Mirdad Nejrabi was also injured.
No group claimed responsibility for the attack.
Taliban fighters frequently use implosive explosive devices to target army and police vehicles. Earlier this month, the police chief for eastern Nangarhar province was killed in a bombing in the Hesarak district of the province.
Brig. Gen. Zarawar Khan Zahid was killed and one of his bodyguards was injured in the landmine explosion while inspecting police check points in the insecure district, governor’s spokesman Attaullah Khogyani said.
Separately, the Taliban shadow governor for Zabul province was killed during the clashes with security forces in the Qalat city, provincial capital, an official said Saturday.
“Abdul Rahman, the military commander was killed when the Taliban attacked a police checkpoint late Friday,” said Ghulam Jilani Farahi, a security official in the province.
He blamed Taliban militants for different insurgent activities in different areas of the province as well as for the planting of mines along the Kabul-Kandahar highway.
