AT-KABUL: Four Romanian soldiers of the “Rechinii Albi” Force Protection Battalion were wounded on Sunday in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in southern Kandahar province of the country.
The attack took place in Dand district of the province while the soldiers were on routine patrol.
“After securing the area, the soldiers were given first aid and evacuated to the military hospital in Kandahar Air Base,” the Romanian Ministry of National Defense said in a statement.
Local Afghan officials also confirmed the blast but denied to give details.
“Second Lieutenant Florin Oprea, Sergeant Eduard-Vlad Romilă, Corporal Marcel Neagu and Private Costică-Victor Tarnovschi are in a stable condition, under care at the base hospital. The battalion leadership made sure the soldiers could keep in touch with their families,” the defense ministry said.
Taliban in a statement claimed they have killed at least six foreign troops in an IED blast in the province.
