AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: A solider gunned down four of his colleagues and wounded three others in the Jawand district of the western Badghis province, an official said on Wednesday, the latest of a series of insider attacks.
“The insider attack took place in the Kotal Siah area on Tuesday,” Pajhwok Afghan News quoted army brigade commander in Badghis Col. Sher Mohammadi, as saying.
The attacker was killed by another solider in their outpost, he said.
Immediately after the incident, Taliban claimed responsibility, saying that the attacker Eid Mohammad was their infiltrator in army ranks, confirming that the attacker was shot dead in return.
Earlier, six police officers were killed after three of their comrades opened fire at them in the southern province of Uruzgan province.
They were killed in a checkpoint in Shahid Hasas district.
The attackers managed to escape, taking weapons and ammunition of their dead colleagues with them.
Insider attack is not a new thing and often takes place by the Taliban sympathizers in the army and police. In the past Taliban infiltrators killed the NATO-led international troops in the so-called ‘green-on-blue’ attacks. Moreover, four cops were killed in an apparent insider attack in Khakriz district of Kandahar province. The attackers were again in uniform.
