AT-KABUL: Several members of the Wolesi Jirga on Monday called on the government to review the Bilateral Security Agreement (BSA) signed with the United States, blaming the government for failing to ensure security.
The National Unity Government (NUG) signed bilateral security agreement with United States during their first day of work.
Maulavi Abdul Rahman Rahmani, a lawmaker from Balkh province, blamed US over insecurity growing in Afghanistan, and called for review of BSA. “We want the BSA with US to be reviewed, because security situation had been deteriorated at large extent after signing the pact,” he said, adding that BSA failed to improve security. “The Afghan masses wanted peace and security by singing the pact.”
Moreover, Obaidullah Barakzai, representative from Uruzgan province, said that the “key to peace in Afghanistan is with America.” He added that those who came here with US support never think about Afghans.”
Wolesi Jirga speaker, Abdur Raouf Ibrahimi expressed his deep concerns over worsening security situation, saying that the government’s sole responsibilityis to ensure security for the people.
He also regretted government’s failure to protect civilians and Afghanistan’s territory. Hinting toward rifts between to two leaders, he said that Wolesi Jirga would take a decision on the issue during an extraordinary session.
Another member of parliament from Farah province, Samiullah Samim, emphasized on removal of rifts between the two leaders—President Ashraf Ghani, and the Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah. “The parliament should intervene to heal the rifts, which may bust the moral of our security forces.”
According to local media report, the Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah’s office on Sunday said the National Unity Government (NUG) leaders have met with each other several times in recent days but they have not resolved their disagreements over a few matters.
“Overall, a number of meetings were held between the NUG leaders before and after the Brussels Summit. They (the two leaders) have agreed over a number of disagreements, but a number of issues still need to be discussed,” said Jawed Faisal, deputy spokesman for the CEO.
