AT-KABUL: Afghan government has appointed General Qadam Shah Shaheen, as chief of the army staff, an official said on Saturday.
“National Unity Government leaders agreed on General Qadam Shah’s appointment as the Army Chief of Staff of the country,” Javid Faisal, a spokesman for the Chief Executive Office, said on Twitter today.
General Qadam Shah, before this was serving as commander of the 111 Division of Afghan National Army, based in Kabul.
This is in a while that President Ashraf Ghani on Thursday announced Masoum Stanekzai as minister-designate for defense, who still need to be approved by the parliament.
Before, Stanekzai, General Shir Muhammad Karimi, was nominated for the slot, but was rejected by the parliament.
