AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: President Ashraf Ghani on Sunday visited Jalalabad, the capital of Nangarhar province, and discussed various issues regarding peace, security and stability in the eastern zone.
According to Tolonews, Ghani met with officials and tribal elders from Nangarhar, Laghman, Nuristan and Kunar and discussed ways to establish lasting peace and stability in the eastern zone.
Expressing concerns over insecurity and other escalating problems in their areas, local officials and tribal elders from the eastern zone during the meeting with the president have announced their full support and said that they are committed to establish peace and stability in their zone and the country.
Nangarhar’s governor, Salim Khan Kunduzi, said that he is optimistic about the cooperation between the security agencies in his province and said that he is assured the security would further improve.
Meanwhile, in a press conference on Sunday afternoon, President Ghani urged the governor of Nangarhar to continue fighting against the Islamic State (IS) also known with its Arabic name as Daesh.
Ghani said, “No more to Daesh in Afghanistan.”
Speaking about the today’s (Monday) quadrilateral meeting in Islamabad, Ghani assured the nation that any peace deal with the insurgents would be based on the national interests.
Ghani also stressed on economy issues and said that foreign assistance would not reduce poverty and establish prosperous environment in the country. He called on nation to get involved and attract investors to invest in the country.
The president’s visit came amidst the increasing insecurity and instability in the eastern zone of the country.
