AT News Report-KABUL: President Ghani on Thursday urged all civic agents and agencies to intensify awareness-raising activities so that people may flock to the polling stations to register for the upcoming parliament and district councils elections. He also urged people to participate in the voter registration campaign.
In a joint conference with the governors of 34 provinces, security brass and the election commission officials on Thursday, Ghani urged officials to facilitate the turnout of women in registration centers. He said religious scholars had the responsibility to preach the importance of the process.
The election body, however, announced an increase in the number of people turning in voter registration centers. The IEC commissioner expressed satisfaction over the public turnout in voter registration process in recent days.
Registration of candidates for the parliamentary elections will begin on May 22 and the registration process would continue to June 2 for twelve days with the condition that candidates are aged 25 or above to contests in the polls.
