KABUL: President Ashraf Ghani brought reshuffles on top military command in the wake of the Taliban rapid territorial gains across the country.
Haibatullah Alizai replaced Wali Mohammad Ahmadzai, as the new chief of army staffs. Alizai previously worked as commander of the Afghan National Army Commando.
Meanwhile, commander of the Maiwand corps, Sami Sadat was appointed as commander of the Afghan National Army Commandos.
Ahmadzai was appointed as army chief a few months back, but he has faced a lot of criticisms due to his weak management.
The new changes come as several northern provinces of Afghanistan have fallen to Taliban within a week.
