AT-KABUL: Pakistani Army Chief General Raheel Sharif and Director General of ISI Rizwan Akhtar in a meeting with President Ashraf Ghani reaffirmed Islamabad’s commitment to support Afghanistan’s peace process. They said that Pakistan has taken a new direction to facilitate the reconciliation efforts.
This is the fourth visit of the Pakistan’s top military leadership to Afghanistan following the formation of the National Unity Government.
A statement issued by the Presidential Palace said that results of the steps taken by Islamabad would appear on the scene within weeks.
“The Afghan government is hopeful that expansion of relations between the two countries will help in brining lasting peace to the region,” the statement added.
According to another statement, the Pakistani officials also met with the National Security Advisor Muhammad Hanif Atmar. The two sides explored ways to enhance bilateral relations.
Raheel Sharif said that his country stood ready to support Afghanistan’s peace process and would spare no efforts to bring lasting peace to the region.
