KABUL: President Ashraf Ghani has once again called on the Taliban to agree to a ceasefire in the country. He said this after unidentified gunmen shot dead the deputy chairman for provincial council of southeastern Paktia province on Saturday. Ayub Gharwal came under attack when he was on his way to the university. He succumbed to his injuries at hospital.
In a statement issued by his office, President Ghani strongly condemned the terrorist attack and ordered the related organs to thoroughly investigate the incident to identify and punish the perpetrators.
He also said that the fight of the Afghan security and defense forces against the terrorists and criminals would be continued.
To protect the compatriots, stop violence and terrorist incidents and to culminate the Doha peace talks to a desirable goal of achieving a dignified and last peace, President Ghani had once again called on Taliban to accept humanitarian and permanent nationwide ceasefire which is the demand of the Afghan people and the international community.
No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
