Provincial officials will take part in national decisions
By Farhad Naibkhel-KABUL: President Ashraf Ghani has vowed to address the problems that provincial officials are facing, providing them with the chance of taking part in national decisions, said a provincial governor.
Governors of Ghazni, Faryab, Badghis, Wardak, Khost, Takhar, Sar-e-Pul, Nuristan, Baghlan, Samangan, Farah and Kabul provinces met with President Ghani and security officials, sharing challenges they were facing.
“All the governors shared security, economic, social, educational and imbalanced development issues as well as the presence of illegal armed groups their respective localities and asked the relevant organs to take measured for solution,” said Zaher Wahdat, governor for Sar-e-Pul province.
“The government promised to help provincial officials to overcome the problems in the provinces,” Wahdat told reporters.
Government has intention for serving, but lacks resources, he added.
Governor of Farah Asef Nang said that the president pledged to provide the governors with more authorities such as taking part in national decisions.
He said that governors will have the right of monitoring the projects in different aspects in the provinces.
“The governors will be allowed to budget five per cent of the provincial revenues to the province,” he asserted.
Governor of Ghazni Mohammad Aman Hamimi called the meeting useful, saying that “president gave order to the security organs to increase coordination with provinces and address their requirements for further achievements”.
This is the second time the provincial governors met with the president in the past couple of months.
The first meeting was launched in November 2015 between high ranking officials and governors, in which the governors of Nangarhar, Laghman, Kunar, Helmand, Badakhshan and Logar had attended.
