Afzal Khan Lala remembered
AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: President Muhammad Ashraf Ghani welcomed the nationalist leaders, representing Pashtuns of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan provinces as well as tribal areas.
Following President Ghani’s invitation to attend a reference in the memory of late Pashtun nationalist leader Afzal Khan Lala, the delegation arrived in Kabul the other day on three-day official visit.
The nationalist leaders include Dr. Salim Khan (son of Afzal Khan Lala), Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Awami National Party (ANP) president Asfandyar Wali Khan, ANP central leader Afrasiab Khattak, Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) leader Aftab Sherpao, QWP’s senior provincial leader Sikandar Sherpao and PkMAP’s senior central leader Osman Khan Kakar. Former KP governor Shaukatullah Khan and ex-ambassador Ayaz Wazir was also part of the delegation.
Welcoming the delegation at the Presidential Palace, the president told the guests that Afghans were feeling pride that the nationalist leaders have arrived with peace messages. He said that demise of Afzal Khan Lala was painful for Afghans. “His thoughts, goals and conversations were unaffected,” the president said while recalling his last telephonic conversion with Afzal Khan.
“It is your home, you are always welcome because mutual visits strengthen relations and result in peace and stability,” Pajhwok Afghan News quoted Ghani.
He said that it was their responsibility to accomplish the wishes and desires of Bacha Khan and Shaheed Abdul Samad Khan Achakzai.
On the occasion, Aftab Sherpao said that people living on both sides of the Durand Line share grief and pain, adding they came with the message of peace.
The delegates have arrived on a three-day visit aimed at promoting peace in the region and goodwill between the neighbours, Afrasiab Khattak told Pajhwok Afghan News. “Our objective is to create a positive environment for constructive interaction and strong relations between the two countries,” Pajhwok quoted Khattak.
The delegates would attend today (Saturday) a reference in memory of Afzal Khan Lala.
