KABUL: Some members of the High Council for National Reconciliation say the appointment of President Ashraf Ghani’s special envoy for Afghan peace process would affect the peace negotiations.
Following the list of the members of the reconciliation council, Ghani in a decree appointed the current minister of state for peace affairs, Abdul Salam Rahimi as his special envoy for Afghan peace process. Rahimi is also appointed as the deputy of the reconciliation council. The appointment faced some reactions in the reconciliation council.
Mohammad Ismail Khan, one of the members of the council said that if Rahimi was appointed as Ghani’s special envoy for peace affairs, his works and activities would be in contrast with the council.
According to him, the disagreement between Rahmi and reconciliation council in the intra-Afghan negotiations would undermine the peace process. “I hope the general authority is not up to Rahimi,” he added.
Ghani’s spokesman Sediq Sediqqi refrain himself from stating any remarks in regards.
But another member of the council, Hajji Din Mohammad said that Rahimi’s appointment would be helpful in the peace process. “There won’t be any other organization, Rahimi is one of the deputies of Abdullah Abdullah (Chairman of the Council) and will represent the President in the council,” he added.
A member of the peace and war studies, Hikmat Azimi said that formation of parallel departments was a failed system. “President Ghani wants to include his close and dependable people in the peace process,” he added.
