AT-KABUL: Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) has established a joint committee comprising of lawmakers and the ministry’s officials to migrate the deserving girl students from universities in insecure provinces.
Nearly a month ago, university students in insecure parts of the country expressed concerns over their safety and urged the government to migrate them to their native provinces. However, the MoHE said that students were given admissions in universities based on their score in the entrance exam.
After coming under extreme pressure, the ministry has decided to establish the committee which would authorize migration of the deserving female university students pursuing higher education in restive provinces.
Summoned by the Wolesi Jirga, the acting minister for higher education Muhammad Usman Babori said that many students made mistake while choosing university in the first place.
He said the girl students would be migrated based on score they secured in the entrance exam. Babori said the committee would assess score of the female students.
Lack of sufficient funds and resources to enhance education quality were the other problems pointed out by the minister.
The legislators urged the ministry to migrate the boy and girl students to universities in their native provinces due to security reasons.
Iqbal Safi, an MP from Kapisa, said that students enrolled in universities in insecure provinces were unable to focus on their studies because of insecurity.
He said the families were worried and could not afford hostel and other expenditures as well.
