KABUL: First Vice President, Amrullah Saleh says that the government has begun “street to street and neighborhood to neighborhood” intelligence coverage all around Kabul city, a move to apparently prevent the widespread crime cases that threatens people’s lives and properties.
He was given responsibility for the capital’s security by a President Ghani’s order.
Saleh wrote on Facebook Monday that district police chiefs have received the lists of criminals, saying that the district police chiefs are well aware about the whereabouts and activities of criminals.
He warned the owners of vehicles without documents that their cars would be seized and the several-storied residential buildings built illegally would be destroyed.
Meanwhile, interior ministry revealed for the first time that hundreds of police officers are involved in crimes.
“Totally, 2,393 officers have been arrested on the charge of having hands in crimes,” said Dawood Hasas, an interior ministry official.
1,400 of 2,000 arrested police officers are charged for corruption, 82 ones have committed murder while another 152 have injured people.
31 of these arrested officers are accused of sodomy and adultery and 54 have been found as Taliban infiltrators.
“Police receive little payment, so they commit crimes or are used by armed opposition groups,” said Mirza Mohammad Yarmand, former deputy interior minister.
