By Farhad Naibkhel-KABUL: The Civic Movement of Social Justice (CMSJ), a rights group, on Thursday expressed concerns over growing insecurity, rampant corruption and unemployment in the country and warned the National Unity Government (NUG) of serious crises if failed to initiate broad spectrum of socio-political reforms.
Ahmad Zaki, a member of the CMSJ, said that Afghanistan is passing through a critical juncture due to mismanagement.
He said that continuation of the current situation is a serious threat to the government. If the challenges were not taken seriously, the system could collapse, Zaki warned.
The activist further said that militants are posing threats to civilians and government servants in northern provinces, but affairs of the defense ministry are run by a caretaker.
Speaking about joblessness, he said that it was unemployment forcing people to join militant groups. Zaki said that due to widespread corruption investors do not want to invest in the country.
He said that the delay in the formation of the Cabinet and internal political rifts are the major reasons that made the situation worst.
“Recently, some governmental organizations did not cooperate with media to share information related to important cases. Therefore, people were deprived of information that they wanted. So, it is also an issue to be concerned about,” he said.
Another member of the CMSJ, Ghulam Mohammad Mohammadi, said that public support for the NUG is eroding rapidly as there is “no ray of hope while challenges are multiplying”.
The CMSJ commended the security forces for the sacrifices and efforts guided to eliminate militancy and asked the government to equip the Afghan National Army and police with modern weapons.
