Govt asked to share national issues with parliament for debate

Abdul Zuhoor Qayomi-KABUL: The Wolesi Jirga (WJ) or Lower House of the Parliament on Monday asked President Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah to share important national issues with the lawmakers, aimed at finding viable solutions.

Members of the Wolesi Jirga said the government officials should also tell the parliament that why insecurity is increasing across the country.

Growing insecurity, fall of districts to the Taliban, jailbreak in Ghazni, abduction of businessmen in the capital Kabul and Herat, and nepotism in government departments were the major issues that have raised deep concerns in the Wolesi Jirga.

They alleged the relevant authorities of committing negligence in their duty that resulted into insecurity. The legislators said that the high-ranking officials must be summoned to explain the reasons.

Farooq Nazari, a lawmaker from Herat, said that kidnapping cases have increased in his province.

“My newphew was kidnapped on Sunday afternoon but the police did nothing to rescue him,” lamented Nazari.

Accusing the administrative board of the Wolesi Jirga of interference to hamper the summoning procedure, he said the first or the second deputy speaker should collect signatures of the MPs in order to save the state officials from summoning.

Ali Akbar Qasemi, another MP, questioned security officials’ performance, saying that 350 inmates escaped from Ghazni prison despite the fact that authorities were warned of possible prison attack.

Accused the leaders of the National Unity Government (NUG) of nepotism, Monawar Shah Bahaduri, a lawmaker, said the leaders were hiring only those who were from their party.

Farhad Majedi, an MP from Herat, said that lawmakers could play significant role in resorting the trust of public over the government.

Speaker of the WJ, Abdul Rauf Ebrahemi, urged President Muhammad Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah to share important issues with the lawmakers for a better advice.

Underlining the current situation as critical, he said the abductions, fall of the districts to Taliban, brain drain and growing insecurity are the important issues to be shared with the lawmakers. He said the relevant officials should be summoned.

He directed the Internal Security Committee (ISC) and other relevant parliamentary committees of the WJ to summon the minister of interior and other concerned officials to explain their plans, based on the internal jobs principles. The relevant parliamentary committees must submit their reports in the session to explain their programs in this aspect, he added.

The speaker asked the government to introduce nominees for the ministry of defense, Attorney General Office, the Red Crescent Society of Afghanistan (RCSA) and the high council of the Supreme Court to the Wolesi Jirga for vote of confidence.
