KABUL: The National Unity Government on Tuesday said it has finalized a list of 250-member delegation to participate in intra-Afghan dialogue with Taliban negotiation members in Doha, the capital city of Qatar.
Spokesman for President Ashraf Ghani, Haroon Chakhansori has confirmed finalization of the list, saying that it includes political figures, and related organs and administrations representatives. He said representatives of people from all walks of live were presence when the list of participants was finalized on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Samim Arif, Deputy Spokesman for President Ghani said the Doha talks would launch on 19-21st of April.
According to a statement issued by Office of Chief of Staff for the President, the list consists of 250 members, in which over 50 of them are women.
The list comprised of prominent Afghan politicians, former Jihadi leaders, national figures, parliamentarians, members of the civil society and other related organs and administration, the statement added.
At the same time, a Taliban sources has confirmed the group’s preparation for talks in Qatar with few numbers of women among them. “These women, where their number is no clear yet, will participate in the peace talks representing Taliban group,” the source who wished anonymous said.
Although, there is no clue what would be agenda or which subjects are going to be discussed, but two days ago, U.S. Special Envoy for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad called on Taliban to agree for a comprehensive truce which the quickest way to reduce violence and casualties.
The echo has come few days after the Taliban group announced “spring offensive” with attacking several security posts in different provinces.
“The quickest way to prevent casualties is to agree to a ceasefire. Taliban senior leadership should allow their representatives to come to the table and discuss. I will continue to press the case,” Khalilzad said.
He continued that the Afghan people deserve and want a comprehensive ceasefire and negotiations leading to a lasting peace. “The US stands with them.”
