AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: The National Unity Government (NUG) has so far struggled to improve its ties in regional level but a number of MPs believe that Kabul should prioritize keeping balance in its ties with the regional countries.
Radio Azadi on Monday quoted Sayid Ali Kazimi, member of international relations commission of the Wolesi Jirga (the Lower House of the parliament), as saying that ambiguity in government’s stance on Yemen conflict and president’s trip to Iran have put the people of Afghanistan between a rock and a hard place.
He said that lack of clear foreign policy has made President Ghani’s trips imbalanced, and has undermined their achievements.
President Ghani visited Tehran at a time that the NUG’s recent stance on Yemen war has said to be resulted in tensions among officials in Iran.
The Iranian President told his Afghan counterpart that the regional countries should try to overcome the regional problems including Yemen crisis through diplomatic and peaceful channels.
Experts believe that Hassan Rouhani’s remarks hints at the recent stance on the Afghan government on Yemen war.
Recently, the NUG announce its support to Saudi Arabia on Yemen war. President Ghani is due to visit India at the end of this month.
Analyst in political affairs and head of the US Strategic Studies Center for Afghanistan, Rohullah Amin, was quoted by Radio Azadi, as saying that President Ghani should thoroughly keep the balance of Kabul’s ties with the regional countries.
Terming Ghani’s Iran trip as the government’s efforts to keep balance in its relations with the regional countries, he said Iran has found a critical and sensitive stance on Yemen conflict therefore it is required for the Afghan government to consider the issue as important and balance its relations with regional states.
“Emotional decisions and taking stances without consultation are not in favor of Afghanistan, as the government did regarding Yemen war. It will drive the country towards a direction which is not in interest of the nation,” he added.
Critics believe that the Afghan government should keep the balance of its ties with Iran and Saudi Arabia and on the other hand with India and Pakistan.
