AT-KABUL: Political parties have affirmed that the government had reached a consensus with UNAMA and IEC on a biometric voting system for the forthcoming elections.
Representations of political parties who met on Tuesday with representatives of the government, United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan, and Independent Election Commission, confirm that their blueprint for a biometric voter registration on the day of parliamentary elections was agreed upon and that the IEC undertook to evaluate technicalities of that proposition.
Jami’ate Islami Party activist, Nooruddin Akhlaqi, Hezbi Islami member Humayoon Jarir, Wahdat Islami Party member Mohammad Nateqi, and IEC spokesperson Seyed Hafizullah Hashemi all believed that in spite of this unanimity, possibility of fraud in the forthcoming elections is high as long as the current election system exists”.
