AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: The Special Electoral Reforms Commission (SERC) urged the government to form the election commissions’ selection committee this week.
Seddiqullah Tawhidi, the deputy chief of SERC, said that the government should call members of the selection committee to hold meetings. He stressed that the office of administrative to take all necessary measures to pave the ground for implementation of the reforms recommended by the body.
Changes to the selection committee of election bodies were one of the seven suggestions of the SERC approved by President Ashraf Ghani. The committee will have seven members, who will be comprised of the election watchdog organizations, women right activists, representatives of media, Supreme Court, independent human rights commission, the commission of oversight over implementation of constitution, and a representative of civil services board of Afghanistan.
The committee will suggest new people to the president to be appointed as commissioners of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) and Independent Electoral Complaint Commission (IECC).
