KABUL: A former jihadi commander believes that the government was trying to curb the ongoing peace efforts, saying that Ghani administration seeks “its favorite peace”.
Ismail Khan who has served as minister of energy and water in Karzai government, said Friday that the government makes efforts to appoint its own people in the peace negotiating team to control the talks with Taliban.
The government tries to send a team to the intra-Afghan dialogue slated to be held on April 19 in the Qatari capital of Doha city, a follow up to the similar meeting held in February in Moscow.
Taliban have so far refused to hold meetings with government representatives, calling it a “US puppet”.
Khan who was a participant of the Moscow meeting, says that Taliban do not trust the government, offering “a mechanism” to include the “group” to the political process so that all parties trust it.
Khan said that the Consultative Loya Jirga that is scheduled to be called on April 29th to discuss peace ways, would further complicate the peace process and would put a negative impact on the ongoing efforts.
