KABUL: At least four people were killed by unknown gunmen in Jalalabad, the capital city of eastern Nangarhar province, officials said on Tuesday.
Provincial press department said in a statement that a number of armed men opened fire on a military vehicle in PD 3 of Jalalabad city, killing one police officer and wounding two others. The department said that three people, including a medical doctor were killed in a similar incident in PD4 of the city.
Provincial Public Health Spokesman, Abdulzahir said that they received four dead bodies and two wounded people. The wounded were under treatment, he said, without providing further details whether they were in good health conditions. No one claimed the responsibility for the attack so far.
Last Sunday, a local police commander was killed in Nangarhar.
This is as Afghanistan has recently seen a wide-string of the targeted-killings of government, security personnel, journalists and activists. No one claimed responsibility for the attacks but the Afghan government blamed the Taliban for the killing of journalists, judges, social activities, doctors, and government employees.
The US officials also earlier accused the Taliban of being involved in the attacks and called on the group to stop it. But the Taliban has constantly denied its involvement in these attacks.
