Kabul: On World Food Day, Human Rights Watch has published a report on the situation of different countries regarding access to food.

The organization has reported that 193 million people in 53 countries suffered from food insecurity in 2021 and needed humanitarian assistance.

This global organization has emphasized that chain disruptions in food supply, Corona, climatic events and the war in Ukraine are among the reasons for the increase in food insecurity.

In part of its report, Human Rights Watch has discussed the situation of the people of Afghanistan and reported that half of the population of Afghanistan, which is more than 19 million people, experiences a high level of food insecurity.

According to this report, only in 2022 in Afghanistan, 34,000 children were hospitalized due to malnutrition, and it is possible that thousands of children did not even go to medical centers for treatment.

Human Rights Watch has also said that the effects of malnutrition are long-term and will have a negative impact on the growth of people as well as the immune system.

This organization requested countries and the world organization to take immediate measures in the field of humanitarian aid for people in need.

On the other hand, according to the latest report of the global hunger index, Afghanistan is ranked 109th in the global hunger index.

The Global Hunger Index is a tool for comprehensive measurement of hunger at the global, regional and national levels, its scores are based on the values of four component indicators, namely malnutrition, child stunting and child mortality.

Recently, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has warned of the increase in poverty in Afghanistan.

OCHA said in a tweet that 90 percent of Afghan people do not have enough food and half of Afghan people need humanitarian aids.
