AT-Kabul: The Ministry of Public Health of Afghanistan inaugurated a cold room for vaccine protection and storage at the Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul on Tuesday, officials said.
Dr. Ferozuddin Feroz, the Public Health Minister said that the cold room has the capacity to store 12 million doses of vaccine at a time and have the ability to ensure all needed vaccines all over the country for three months. During the inauguration ceremony Dr. Ferozuddin Feroz said that the vaccine cold room acts as a store for transit as well as helps the facility for national level vaccine stores.
This is the first ever step for ensuring quality of vaccine once the shipment arrives into the country.
The minister furthered that such immunization program is one of the high important programs of the ministry of public health. He said the facility will help in providing quality vaccine for children across the country.
This cold room has been funded by UNICEF whereas it was completed in one year with the cost of cost of US$150,000.
