AT-KABUL: A suicide car bombing targeted an army convoy in the southern province of Helmand, killing at least five people, the first attack after the US president announced a new strategy on Afghanistan based on which, more troops are set to be deployed.
Provincial Spokesman, Omar Zwak, said that the attack took place Wednesday morning near the police headquarters in the Lashkar Gah city, the provincial capital. “Three civilians are among the killed, two of them women and a child,” Zwak told Afghanistan Times, adding that two other killed were soldiers.
The US President, Donald Trump, insisted in his strategy that insurgents wouldn’t be safe anywhere and they (Afghan forces and NATO allies) would win this war.
At the same time, the leaders of the Afghan National Unity Government said that the new US strategy was an opportunity for Taliban and even for neighboring countries.
Meanwhile, Helmand Police Spokesman, Salam Afghan said five killed including two army, two women and one children, and 40 other wounded including three army in car bomber attack in Lashkar Gah city.
He said that the explosion took place near a religious madrasa (seminary), which mostly the students of this Madrasa were wounded.
Wounded people shifted to the nearby hospital by police. Investigation started over the incident, he noted.
Taliban by sending a statement claimed responsibility for the bomber attack in Helmand. They said that this attack was conducted at the frame of Mansouri offensive targeted army convoy.
