AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Thousands of acres of state-owned land have been grabbed by the powerful land mafia in Logar province, official said on Sunday. Logar governor, Mohammad Halim Fidaee briefing newsmen said that 1,660 individuals, including government officials, influential figures, and common people were involved in land gabbing. “We have no land to construct buildings for government institutions, even the land and revenue department has no proper buildings,” he remarked. He said that 35 percent of the government institutions have no proper buildings because land mafia grabbed the lands. He asked the court to allow him to expose the names of the land mafia.
Fidaee pledged to introduce individuals involved in the “dirty game” land mafia to the judicial organs, and said that a commission would soon be assigned to probe in the matter.
“A huge piece of the land has been grabbed by the powerful individual and government officials,” Abdul Ahad Khan, director land and revenue department said.
He said that provincial government officials have no authority to unmask the names of the land grabbers. But the relevant officials had been informed about the issue, he said.
Thousands of acres of land have been grabbed in the province, and it is because the provincial authorities did not pay due attention, Syed Qaribullah Sadaat, the provincial council head told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He termed growing of corruption main reason behind land grabbing in the province. He called on the National Unity Government to take measures to vacate the land from influential people and officials.
