IEC calls on ECC to share complaints assessment
AT News Report-KABUL: The Independent Election Commission (IEC) has asked the Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) to share the results of its assessments of the electoral complaints as soon as possible, emphasizing that any delay in this process would put negative impact on their work.
The IEC deputy spokesman, Zabihollah Sadat, said Saturday that the commission needed to do its job on time and in order, adding that the timely sharing of the complaints results by the IECC would help them do better and on time.
“Our demand from the electoral commission is to share the results of their works with us as soon as they can so we can announce that timely. Their list will help us in transparency of our work,” said Sadat.
The complaints commission was due to announce its final assessments on Thursday, but it failed to do so and accuses the election commission of the delay.
The complaints commission says it has so far evaluated 100 of 800 complaint cases, adding that this is the election commission’s responsibility to announce the final results.
Separately, some people who had been disqualified from the initial list have staged demonstrations. The complaints commission says that it has made decisions independently and impartially, based on the evidences and documents.
Meanwhile, some electoral watchdogs blame the election commission for doing slow and being unable to do its jobs. NaiemAyoubzada, head of the Transparent Election Foundation of Afghanistan (TEFA), said that the election commission sent the list of probable candidates late to the complaints commission and should not blame the latter one.
“The main problem is with the election commission, because it failed to do its job according to timetable and sent the list of candidates late to the complaints commission. The complaints commission needs time to meet complaints and it was all the election commission’s fault,” said Ayoubzada.
