KABUL: The Independent Election Complaints Commission (IECC) on Wednesday announced it has ended the scrutiny to appellant complaints with addressing of 22,500 elections related whines.
Head of IECC, Zuhra Baian Shinwarai in a press conference said that out of 22,500 complaints and objections, 16,500 of them have been handled by provincial office of the commission.
According to her, out of a total 137,630 skeptical votes, 10 percent which counts for (309 polling sites) with biometric information, journal and result sheets had been referred for special inspection.
In case, the audit has given legitimacy to these votes, the rest which is 137,630 would atomically authenticate, she added. She also spoke about referring all the 137,630 votes to special audits if it failed to complete criteria by 35 percents.
Regarding 102,012 votes casted out of times, which include 7,354 polling sites, she said 15 percent which counts for (1,103 sites) with biometric information, journal, and result sheets, would refer to special audits. “If the audited of 1,103 sites completed the criteria by 65 percent than all 102,012 votes and 7,354 sites would be valid, if it was 35 percent then all 102,012 votes will be announced invalid.”
Regarding complaints over non-biometric votes of 2,432 sites, she said decision has taken to refer 298 sites to special audits and in case it has completed the criteria it would be called valid votes. She furthered that if it failed to meet the criteria, it will call these non-biometric votes invalid.
Days ago, former chief of the election commission, Fazl Ahmad Manawi – and a staunch supporter of Dr. Abdullah, a front-runner in run-up for presidency – has begun acknowledging the notion of a runoff in the 2019 presidential election. Manawi in his Facebook account voiced confidence that Afghanistan’s fourth presidential elections is highly likely to go to a second round as none of the candidates have surpassed the threshold.
