Kabul: In the past week, at least four women have lost their lives due to domestic violence in various provinces of Afghanistan.
In the most recent incident, the security commander of Nangarhar province reported that a man fatally shot his wife and daughter in Jalalabad city, the capital of the province. The motive behind this act has not yet been clarified.
Meanwhile, rumors surrounding the murder of a woman on March 19 last year in Nangarhar province have resulted in the killing of another woman. According to Abdul Basir Zabuli, spokesman for the Nangarhar security command, these two women were “exchanged.” Following the spread of rumors about one of them being murdered, the father and brothers of the murdered woman killed the other woman by stabbing, who was intended to be their bride. Zabuli further stated that the second woman and two others have been arrested in connection with this case.
Domestic violence remains one of the most prevalent and widespread forms of violence in Afghanistan, with women being primarily targeted.
