Inauguration of Arghandi Transport Terminal Marks Milestone for Afghanistan’s Transport Infrastructure

AT Kabul: Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, officially inaugurated the commencement of construction on the Arghandi Transport Terminal in Kabul’s Paghman District on Sunday. The ceremony was attended by key government officials, including Acting Minister of Transport and Aviation, Mullah Hamidullah Akhundzada, as well as representatives from the private sector and local residents.

Baradar highlighted the critical importance of the Arghandi Transport Terminal, calling the project a key step toward improving Afghanistan’s transport infrastructure. He emphasized that the development and expansion of the nation’s transportation networks are essential for driving economic growth, national development, and enhancing both domestic and regional connectivity.

“Decades of war and corruption have left our infrastructure in disrepair,” Baradar stated, citing the neglect of the transport sector due to poor construction quality, usurped public lands, and deteriorating roads. He also stressed the need for urgent investment in the sector, the recovery of usurped state land, and the restoration of original roads as key goals for the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.

The Arghandi Transport Terminal will be constructed on approximately 900 jeribs of land at an estimated cost of 1.285 billion Afghanis. The project, set to be completed within two years, is expected to be fully developed by the private sector.

Once completed, the terminal will play a significant role in improving the efficiency and organization of logistics and transit operations. It is also expected to reduce transportation costs, alleviate traffic congestion, and create numerous employment opportunities for local residents.

Baradar reaffirmed the Islamic Emirate’s commitment to the growth and expansion of Afghanistan’s transport infrastructure, aligning with broader objectives aimed at national recovery and progress.

The Arghandi Transport Terminal is expected to be a cornerstone project in revitalizing Afghanistan’s transport and economic landscape, laying the foundation for a more connected and prosperous future.
