AT-KABUL: Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) celebrated the International Nurses Day in a ceremony on Tuesday.
At least 330 nurses and midwives received certificates in the event. The graduated students completed a two-year term in the fields of nursing, midwifery, medical technology, radiology, dental health, pharmacy, physiotherapy and anesthesiology.
The deputy minister of the MoPH, Abdul Basir Sarwar, told the gathering that the nurses like doctors play crucial role in rescuing the lives of patients. “Now you shoulder a great responsibility. Your mission is to help those that are struggling between death and life. You should hold this duty with honesty,” he said.
Terming lack of job opportunity as main problems for the newly graduated students, he called on the nurses to be patient and they will find their way soon.
According to the MoPH, nearly 42,000 nurses have graduated from state and private health institutes countywide.
He said the ministry has provided nurses and midwives to most parts of the country but a number of remote areas are still faced with lack of health services due to insecurity.
He added that insecurity impedes young midwives and nurses to travel to some parts of the country and serve there. “This issue needs more time. We are struggling to cope with it,” he vowed.
A number of newly graduated nurses expressed concern over lack of employment opportunity, and said the government should pay heed in this regard.
Hangama, a newly graduated student from Ghazanfar Institute of Health Sciences, said she was worried about her future as nurse because of lack of job opportunity.
She said the government encourages the young generation for higher education but does not help them to find job.
Another graduate nurse, Temur Shah, said the MoPH has failed to provide job opportunity for nurses and midwives. “We want serious attention in this field,” he added.
