KABUL: Russian Special Envoy for Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov said that talks between the Afghan sides would be held within next 10 days, following the US-Taliban peace deal, signed Saturday in the Gulf state of Qatar by US top negotiator Zalmay Khalilzad and Taliban deputy leader Mullah Abdull Ghani Baradar.
Speaking on the sideline of US-Taliban peace deal ceremony, Kabulov said, “For us, the whole peace process is important. As long as I know from American and Taliban these negotiations should be kicked off in ten-day period of time after the peace deal.”
A source privy to Taliban had earlier said that the intra-Afghan talks would be held in a precondition of 5,000 Taliban prisoners release.
The US-Taliban peace deal was signed with the presence of several representatives of the countries. The US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo also took part in the event.
