Iran ready to host ministerial meeting on Afghanistan

Iran’s Foreign Minister has said in a meeting with Mohammad Sadiq Khan, Pakistan’s special representative for Afghanistan affairs, that Iran is ready to hold an extraordinary meeting of foreign ministers of neighboring countries regarding Afghanistan.

This is while Mr. Khan has traveled to Tehran to discuss the latest developments in Afghanistan.

Mr. Abdullahian once again pointed out the presence of “more than four and a half million Afghan citizens” in Iran and said that among them one and a half million Afghan immigrants came to Iran only in the last one year after the rise of the Taliban to power.

Mr abdullahian emphasized that Iran uses all its capacities to establish peace and tranquility in Afghanistan, which causes refugees to return to their country.

In this meeting, Sadiq Khan, the special envoy of the Prime Minister of Pakistan for Afghanistan affairs, while explaining Pakistan’s views on the current developments in Afghanistan, emphasized the importance of constructive role of the regional  countries and neighboring Afghanistan, especially Iran and Pakistan in developments in Afghanistan.

Referring to his positive consultations with the authorities of Iran on the issue of Afghanistan and regional security, the special envoy of the Prime Minister of Pakistan emphasized that Iran and Pakistan are the most affected countries by the developments in Afghanistan due to the massive influx of refugees, and the growth of drug trafficking.

He added that Iran-Pakistan cooperation can help the people of Afghanistan and significantly reduce the harmful effects of the aforementioned situation for the people of Afghanistan and the region.

In this meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran announced the readiness of the Islamic Republic of Iran to hold an extraordinary meeting of foreign ministers of Afghanistan’s neighboring countries.

Last year, Iran hosted the second meeting of foreign ministers of Afghanistan’s neighboring countries, but the officials of the Islamic Emirate were not invited to participate in that meeting.
