KABUL – In a devastating incident, Iranian border guards allegedly killed at least 260 Afghan migrants attempting to cross into Iran, according to survivors and an Iran-based human rights group, Haalvsh. The ambush reportedly occurred Sunday night, October 13, near the Kulgon border area in Saravan.
Two survivors, speaking in a video posted by Haalvsh, recounted the horror, stating that of the 300 migrants, only 50 to 60 survived the attack. One survivor shared that at least 12 of his friends were among the dead. The group was reportedly targeted with gunfire and RPGs, leaving bodies scattered in the desert.
Haalvsh has called for an investigation into the incident, but neither Iranian nor Taliban officials have commented on the allegations. This tragic event sheds light on the extreme dangers Afghan migrants face while fleeing the country in search of safety.
