AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: The Iranian border police on Sunday killed three Afghans and wounded two others when these Afghans attempted to enter Iran and make their way to European countries, an official said. Head of the Provincial Council’s Security Committee Dr. Mehdi Hadid told Pajhwok Afghan News that five people were part of a 12-member group which tried to go abroad illegally. He said the the remaining seven individuals are missing.
Confirming the incident, commander of the 705th border police zone, Gen. Juma Khan Adil, said that the dead bodies were handed over to their families. He added that last year more than 200 Afghans were arrested and their cases were sent to the courts.
“Iranian security officials already had information that Afghans would cross border, that’s why security forces were alert,” Haji Abdul Hakim, was quoted by Pajhwok, as saying.
The Afghans were being stopped to ascertain whether they were Sunni or Shia Muslims, he claimed.
“Sunnis were beaten and sent back to Afghanistan while the Iranians had no problems with Shias,” he furthered.
