Kabul: 85,000 Afghan Nationals Repatriated from Iran’s Kerman Province, Emphasizes Iranian Provincial Director of Foreign Immigrant Affairs.
During a briefing with journalists on Tuesday, Rouhollah Khazaripour disclosed that in the last year, 85,000 individuals lacking residency permits were returned from Kerman Province. He highlighted the humanitarian aspect of the migrant and refugee crisis, linking the increase in migration from Afghanistan to political instability under various governments, with a significant number seeking refuge in Iran.”
Khazaripour highlighted the current lack of capacity and conditions to accommodate new Afghan migrants in Kerman Province, noting the absence of new residency permits issued since the beginning of the year 1402 (Persian calendar). He mentioned some existing permits were extended but emphasized the significant number of individuals without permits who were returned to their home country.
Khazaripour voiced worries about the insecurity due to unauthorized Afghan nationals in Kerman Province, recognizing a recent surge in virtual anxiety related to Afghanistan. However, he clarified that such anxiety doesn’t sway the policies of the Islamic Republic, which prioritize the country’s interests and the well-being of its people. He expressed hope for improved conditions in Afghanistan, facilitating the maximum return of migrants who have been hosted by Iran for nearly four decades.
