Abdul Zuhoor Qayomi-KABUL: The Minister of Interior, Noorul Haq Ulomi, who was summoned by Wolesi Jirga for deterioration security situation in the country, survived a no-trust motion on Monday.
Mismanagement, nepotism in hiring, mounting insecurity, collapse of Kunduz city to the Taliban, removal of Mujahedeen from their positions and Ghazni prison break caused his summoning by lawmakers.
Ulomi managed to satisfy lawmakers by his information about security situation in the country. Ulomi rejected the allegation of nepotism and said that the ministry is hiring people based on merits.
“I have never employed people from my own political party, because I don’t have membership of ‘Watan Party’ anymore,” he said. He added that 27 of 43 people hired in the ministry were former mujahedeen who are appointed based on their qualifications and experience. “The remaining 16 people were hired by the Presidential Palace,” he said.
He accepted that fall of Kunduz city underlined gray security areas.
Ulomi said that Pakistan and other enemies of Afghanistan are supporting terrorist groups in Afghanistan and are trying to create differences among people of Afghanistan. Accepting presence of ISIS in Afghanistan as a challenge, he said that the terrorist group doesn’t have presence in every part of the country and security forces are bravely fighting against the group. He added that security forces are ordered to kill ISIS militants, wherever they find them.
Qais Hassan, the chairman of transport and communication committee of the Wolesi Jirga, alleged that National Security Advisor, Muhammad Hanif Atmar, is involved in hiring new figures in the ministry.
Ebraheem Malikzadah, a lawmaker form Balkh province, said that lawmakers are interfering in the ministry’s affairs to appoint their people in high positions.
Chief of the Defense Committee of the Wolesi Jirga, Muhammad Iqbal Safi, told Afghanistan Times that the ministry’s remarks satisfied lawmakers. He said that he respects the decision of his colleagues. “Removal of the Minister of Interior in this critical situation is not in the interest of the country,” he added.
The 113 out of 151 present lawmakers raised green cards in favor o the Minister of Interior.
